Outsource Your Hacking And Web Attacks!
(There's A Market For Everything Jones)
From the Geek-News Dept.
Ever the entrepreneurs, hackers and virus writer in the Internet underground in Britain are openly (relatively speaking) offering their services to all comers - kind of like an outsourcing or consultant service... For a fee, they will hack a specific site, overload an e-mail inbox, or extort funds from a web business... And apparently the prices aren't that outrageous:
- Sending a million e-mails to someone costs about £50 (about $90-$100 US)
- A program to highjack someone's browser to display a specific web site goes for about £200 (about $360-$370 US)
- A DDoS attack on a web site (to crash the site with excessive traffic) goes for between £8,000 and £12,000 (about $14,500-$22,000 US)
Gerard Lopez, chief executive of the internet security company Securewave
, whose clients include the United Kingdom's Ministry of Defence, said attackers were making tidy profits by finding virus programmers who could deploy a zombie network to order - in some cases creating a brand-new virus to bypass security and anti-virus programs and infect the computer... A recent example was the MyDoom.O virus, a new variant that infected thousands of computers, which was follows by Zindos within 48 hours - Zindos only made use of computers infected with MyDoom.O to launch an attack on the Microsoft
web site... Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at the antivirus company Sophos
, said "Both viruses were written by the same guy. And it's clear some viruses are written purely to create a network of 'zombie' machines which can be used to do anything the virus writer wants."(So update your anti-virus, double-check your firewall, and make sure no one has a grudge against your web site!)
